Cool girls

First of all, I have to give a shout out to my Dad for letting me borrow his Canon Powershot for this trip.  It is a tiny camera and much easier to tote around than my Olympus (which he also gave me - twice...maybe I'll tell you that story another time).  So, thank you, "Camera" Dad.

Here are a few cool girls that I found in Las Vegas -

I love her hat and scarf combo with the delicate necklace peaking out.

This girl is from Australia and bought her unique, geometric sweater at Jigsaw.  (Check out their website at http://www.jigsaw-online.com/)

I love the lace-up shoes with this outfit -

You will always look cool if you are doing acrobatics inside a wine tower -

I bought this jacket at Armani Exchange, so I can look like a cool girl, too -

Do I look any cooler?

Searching for the perfect (cute) travel shoe

In Las Vegas, the hotels and casinos are so huge that you have to walk miles each day just to find something to eat.  I end up walking farther than necessary, because I like to explore and shop.

On our shopping day, I wore my Arturo Chiang flat boots -

We walked through many casinos -

...to shop at Caesar's Palace -

My boots felt great until the 4th hour of walking.  Then, my feet hurt and my legs were hot.  So, I started to look at the feet of the girls who looked chic, cool, and comfortable.  I saw some running shoes (which I would rather not wear outside of the gym).  Then, I noticed a lot of cute tennis shoes - mostly Converse or Pumas like these -

However, I am just not in a sporty phase right now.  I also saw a lot of gladiator sandals -

I like them, but I don't think they would be comfortable for miles of walking.  Then, I started noticing a lot of cute and cool looking girls wearing these -

For every shoe you buy, Toms donates a shoe to a child in need.  So because they happened to have a store in my hotel and I liked the charitable donation, I bought a pair -

I think they looked cuter on all of those other girls, but they are growing on me.  And I feel like I am wearing bedroom slippers - even after walking for miles.

Do you have any other suggestions for me?

I'm back

I went to Las Vegas this past weekend  -

We stayed at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, and here is the view from our first room -

I say our "first" room, because we had to go through 2 other rooms to find one that didn't have a party going on in the adjoining suite.  The Hotel was very accommodating, but it was a little annoying to be moving our bags from room to room at 10 pm (1 am Atlanta time).

Just prior to that, we had dinner at RM Seafood.  The restaurant is owned by Rick Moonen from Top Chef Masters (one of my favorite shows).  So, when the table next to us spotted Rick across the restaurant, it felt like a star sighting to me.  He saw them trying to take his picture and graciously came over to talk to them.  Then, I jumped in on the action -

It would have been a wonderful evening if it had stopped right there.  But then a waitress proceeded to dump our whole dinner on the floor, which splattered food on both my husband and me.  And that is all I will say about that.

Come back tomorrow to see more of my trip...

Spring Chill

I always have trouble figuring out what to wear in early Spring.  The other day, it was in the 70's.  Today, it is quite chilly.  I decided a ruffled sweater would be appropriate -

(It turns out that it's not appropriate.  I'm still cold.)

Denim Makes a Comeback!

I stole that title from Harper's Bazaar, because I think it is hilarious.

Don't most of us already wear denim everyday?  It's just another sign of the economic times.  The high end designers are trying to tap into what is already selling.  They do have to put their own spin on it though - it's denim with denim.  A whole denim outfit!

So, I thought I'd try my hand at denim by making this dress -

Now I am ready for the comeback.

Street Style - Marietta, GA

While strolling in The Avenues in Marietta on a beautiful sunny day, I ran across this lady -

She has on the gray and gold combination that I posted about a few weeks ago here.  I love the ruffled top with the gold accented sunglasses and bracelet.

And you should know by now that a woman wearing heels will always catch my eye -

Thinking of Coco Chanel

The other day, I put this on and was immediately reminded of Coco Chanel in her striped shirt and flats -

I admire Coco Chanel's work ethic and guts.  She wasn't afraid to try new things and to be totally different from every one else.  She was unique and let it show.   While I disagree with many of the choices she made, I respect the strength with which she worked.

I find it incredibly interesting that she thought she fell into her line of work by chance when it appears to have obviously flowed out of her very nature and hard work -

"I have been a couturiere, by chance.  I have made perfumes, by chance.  I am now going to tackle something else.  What?  I don't know.  Here again, chance will decide.  But I am quite ready.  I am not saying goodbye for long.  I am not thinking of anything, but when the moment comes, I feel I will pounce on something that will be within my reach."  - Chanel (as quoted in Coco Chanel by Justine Picardie)

How many times do we believe "chance" is forming our path (whether good or bad), when we are contributing so much to our own destiny?

Fur and Family History

A few weeks ago, I mentioned in a post that fur was a huge trend on the runways for Fall/Winter 2011 at NY Fashion Week.  My mom told me that her sister inherited a mink stole from my Great Aunt that would have been perfect for my post.  So, when I attended my Grandmother's 94th birthday party I asked my Aunt show it to me.  My dad had his camera, so although the rest of my outfit was not fur-worthy, we took some pictures.

Not only did my Great Aunt wear this in the 60's, but my Aunt Cindy wore it to President Carter's Inaugural Ball.  (Yes, my family is from the South.)  After my photos, she told me that I should take it home, because I will probably have more opportunity to wear it than she will.  How sweet!  Now, I just need another black tie event...

Street Style - Roswell

I found the following two ladies in quaint downtown Roswell, GA -

I really like the jacket worn by the lady on the left.  She said she bought it at Anthropologie a couple of years ago.  And I always appreciate bold style as shown by the lady in the bright red dress and checked hat.

I thought this next lady looked so pretty lunching on Canton Street in her sparkly sweater.

She bought her whole outfit at White House Black Market.  I like the flowers on her shoes -

Inpiration from Home Decor (plus a snake story)

I was recently inspired by this room pictured in House Beautiful  -

The Limited sweater, Banana Republic pants and shoes

So, here is the snake story.  We took the following picture not realizing there was a copperhead snake lurking nearby -

In case you didn't spot him, here he is -

Then, as if I wasn't already close enough, I stepped off the bridge -

Thank God I turned around before I stepped back.  When I finally saw him, I freaked out.  Then we recruited the gardener to take care of him.  I never knew fashion could be so dangerous.

Atlantic Station Style - Part 2

While I was at Atlantic Station, I ran into a fellow blogger -

I loved the white purse -

...and the cropped pants paired with the high wedge espadrilles -

Check out her blog at http://www.redcarpetbandit.com/ - "celebrity inspired style for a steal".
