A New York story

When I walked to my gate at the airport, I heard music playing.  There was a guy playing his cello.  He was just practicing until he got on his flight.  Only in New York City.

My color story

About a month ago, I ordered some fabric that looks like this -

I like the fact that it looks like a painting, and the neon colors are very "on trend".  I really wanted to make a long skirt out of it, but I thought, "Where am I going to wear a long splatter paint skirt?"  And then I realized, "Fashion Week!"  So, although it took me 20 hours to make it (due to trying to figure out how to line a skirt with an invisible zipper), I finished it just in time to wear on Friday in New York -



Normally, nobody makes eye contact on the subway in New York, but when I got on wearing this skirt, everyone stared at me.  I soon realized that not only was I wearing a very "loud" skirt, I was the only person wearing any color at all.  However, I fit right in at Lincoln Center.  I actually had a lot of bloggers and media people photograph and interview me.  It was humorous to hear several of them in their nice British accents say (as they wrote on their notepads), "Meredith in her handmade skirt.  Jacket by Target."  I was definitely representing the economical end of fashion. 

Fashion Week is coming

Next week, I'm going back to New York for the beginning of Fashion Week.  For me, it is the ultimate way of appreciating fashion without feeling the need to acquire it (as I spoke about in my previous post).  The creative expressions of the attendees spur me to think more creatively.  To get you ready, here are a few photos from September that I have never shown you -

Susie Bubble (above) writes a very detailed blog on fashion.  She always finds and wears items that are on the cutting edge of clothing design.

I don't particularly like this next outfit all together, but the individual pieces (the fan, the feathers, the studded belt, the sparkly skirt) are each interesting on their own -



Once again, I don't think I would wear all of these pieces together, but I really like the bright stripe on the pants and the criss-cross straps on the shoes -

I'm getting excited.

Fall colors

Now that most of the leaves have fallen here in Atlanta, we have to rely on clothes to give us those pretty Fall colors -

More white

Here is one more example of white after Labor Day.  The white blazer looks great over the long black dress with the huge belt detail.

I am so glad that the rules about "no white after Labor Day" have finally been abolished by the fashion community, because I have a white blazer that is too hot to wear in the summer.  So, here are some people who are wearing white after Labor Day -

Pink

Pink is not only good for gift wrapping but also for clothing.  You can dress it up for your parties but then continue to wear it throughout the year.  It looks modern paired with neutral colors like black, gray, or navy.
